SEATTLE -- All they can do now is wait.
Such is the situation for a handful of Seattle Pacific athletes who are on the provisional qualifying list for the NCAA Division II indoor track championships.
In Saturday's SPU Last Chance meet at the Dempsey Indoor facility on the University of Washington campus, Falcon senior Kate Harline (Orem, Utah) did her part to help her cause with a personal-best time of 4:58.09 in the mile. With senior teammate Jessica Pixler joining forces with her teammate to set the pace, Harline went the distance nearly two seconds faster than her previous best time of 4:59.71, moving farther up the provisional list.
Senior Lisa Anderberg (Edmonds, Wash./Kamiak HS) also went a season-best time in the 800 meters, winning that event in 2:12.71. That was a quarter-second faster than her previous best of 2:12.96.
Other SPU winners on Saturday were sophomore high jumper Brittany Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) at 5-4½ and junior pole vaulted Melissa Peaslee (Fox Island, Wash./Gig Harbor HS) at 12-0½. Peaslee's mark was a season-best, half an inch higher than she cleared in winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title last Saturday.
Peaslee is on the NCAA provisional list, as is Aanstad, who has gone as high as 5-5¾ in the high jump this winter.
Senior Chad Meis (Renton, Wash./Seattle Christian HS) and freshman Amanda Alvarez (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) remain provisional qualifiers in their events after coming up short of automatic standards on Saturday. Meis is on the provisional list in the mile, as is Alvarez triple jump.
Freshman Nate Seely (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS), having won the GNAC 800-meter title last weekend, was eyeing a spot on the provisional list in that event. He needed a 1:53.90, but had to settle for a 1:58.03.
