LACEY, Wash. – Seattle Pacific athletes won nine events Saturday, including sophomore Brittany Aanstad who improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark by over two feet in the women's javelin competition during the Saint Martin's Invitational. The meet was the inaugural event at the new Saint Martin's University track & field complex.

Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) unleashed a winning throw of 142-feet 11 ¾-inches. Her previous javelin best this season was 140-7 set on March 26 at Stanford. Jillian Stray of Saint Martin's was second with a throw of 140-9 ¾.

Another Falcons sophomore, Carly Andrews (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah HS) also extended her season-best by over two feet. Andrews improved her NCAA provisional distance to 132-5 to finish third in the javelin.

SPU sprinter Latasha Essien made good on her first 200-meter race of the season. The senior from Portland, Ore. has been battling an injury that sidelined her until she raced in the 100 meters last weekend. Essien's initial 200 of the outdoor season resulted in a first-place time of 25.27-seconds that surpassed the automatic standard for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships.

Freshman Emily Quatier placed third in the 200 meters and hit the GNAC automatic mark with a time of 25.80. She raced to a second place 100-meter result of 12.78 to improve her conference provisional standard.

SPU sophomore Natalie Nobbs (Yakima, Wash./Riverside Christian HS) was a double event winner. She topped the long jump field with a GNAC automatic mark of 17-7 ½ and then won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.53.

The Falcons other winners in women's events were junior Jacquie Mattson (Odell, Ore.) in the high jump (5-1 ½) and Amanda Alvarez (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) in the triple jump (38-5).

A trio of SPU men came away with victories at the Saint Martin's meet. Freshman Ryan Endresen (Portland, Ore.) won the 400-meter hurdle race by over one second. His time of 54.79 improved his previous GNAC automatic mark.

Junior Jacob Wahlenmaier (Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) clocked a winning time of 4:02.86 in the 1,500 meters. He shaved nearly two seconds off his personal best to improve his conference provisional standing.

Freshman AJ Baker (AuGres, Mich.) completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase course in 10:05.90 to win that event.

Two SPU men finished among the top-four javelin performers. Junior Jace Derwin (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mt. Si HS) bettered his conference automatic qualifying distance, placing second with a throw of 190-3. Senior Nate Wagner (Olympia, Wash./Northwest Christian HS) had a fourth-place toss of 182-3.

Several Falcons will compete Monday and Tuesday at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Multi-Event Championships in Nampa, Idaho. Next Saturday, May 8, SPU hosts the Ken Foreman Invitational at Husky Stadium.
