SEATTLE – Add another title to
Ali Worthen's collection. The Seattle Pacific redshirt senior, who won the NCAA Division II women's heptathlon last week, has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Worthen capped her Falcon career last Thursday and Friday in Pueblo, Colo., when she piled up 5,340 points to take the hep. It was her first NCAA crown and her fifth All-American honor, four of which came in the multi events: three straight in the outdoor heptathlon, and one in the indoor pentathlon.
Earlier this season, the native of Coos Bay, Ore., won her third straight GNAC heptathlon, this one with 5,390 points. She later added titles in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump, ran the second leg on the victorious 4x100 relay, and took third place in both the 200-meter dash and the high jump.
Altogether, she tallied 42 individual points (not counting the 10 she factored into on the relay), finishing her career with 115. That total tied former Western Oregon star Bridget Johnson for the most in GNAC outdoor history. Worthen already owned the record for most points in GNAC indoor history, winding up that portion of her career in 2012 with 110.
Worthen was named the Female Athlete of the Meet for the second year in a row.
She set conference career records for most individual wins outdoors (seven), most individual and relay victories (10), most individual All-GNAC awards (12), and most total All-GNAC awards (15, counting relays).
Worthen also was named GNAC Athlete of the Week twice this spring, giving her eight such honors as a Falcon.
