SEATTLE –- Seattle Pacific's six senior gymnasts won't soon forget their final home meet at Brougham Pavilion. And for one of them it was a family affair.

Sophomore Maria Hundley tied the Falcons vault record in a first-place finish and senior Kenley Memmel won the floor exercise Friday for SPU, which set a new school-record team score of 193.950 in a women's gymnastics dual meet against UC Davis.

"I wasn't really looking at the school record," Coach Laurel Tindall said of her approach after three rotations. "After beam we were wondering what we needed to score to get to 194. It was a pretty high score, like a 48.85. We were close, but a solid 193 is good too."

The Falcons surpassed the mark of 193.900 they established on April 12, 2013 at the USA Gymnastics Championships. Prior to that, the school record stood for six years with a mark of 193.725 registered on Mar. 23, 2007.

The visiting Aggies compiled a first-place total of 195.175 led by Anna Shumaker who won the all-around with 39.20 points. She won the uneven bars (9.85) and tied for top honors on the balance beam (9.875) with teammate Dani Judal.

Hundley (Littleton, Colo.) posted the best scores this season by any SPU gymnast on the vault (9.875), bars (9.825) and beam (9.850). She did not compete on the floor exercise.

"Maria had a great night tonight on three events," Tindall said. "She hasn't hit on all three events this season like this. That was a good thing for her going into the next part of the season where we are away and then have championship meets."

Hundley tied her own school vault record of 9.875, a mark that has been reached seven times by a Falcon. She previously acocmplished that feat on Mar. 23, 2013. The SPU record was initially set in 2004 by Kari Kelly and equaled by Jaynie Reynold (2005), Kelly again (2005) and Kristin Bryant twice (2007).

Along with Hundley's record result, scores of 9.75 by Lauren Glover and 9.70 by Teryn Loland lifted SPU to a season-high team total of 48.475 in their opening rotation.

The score of 9.825 on the bars was good enough to give Hundley second place. The third-place score of 9.85 on the beam improved her own SPU season best mark by .15 and eclipsed her previous career-high of 9.825. Glover also notched a career-best on beam with a 9.825 while senior Kai Tindall (9.750) and Shannon Escarra (9.725) equaled their season highs.

Those lofty results helped the Falcons forge a combined total of 48.475 on the beam that was four-tenths better than their previous season-high of 48.075.

Memmel (West Bend, Wisc.) tied her career high with a season-best score of 9.825 on the floor in her final home performance.

"She had a great floor routine tonight," Tindall said. "Kenley had a great routine last week too. It's a new routine this year for her so she's now getting more confident in it and has been focusing a lot better on landings in her tumbling passes."

Memmel and five other SPU gymnasts competed for the last time at Brougham Pavilion.

The other seniors are Stephanie Cross (Arizona City, Ariz.), Lisa Goodhew (Boulder, Colo.), Bryn Larson (Westminster, Colo.), Kai Tindall (Brier, Wash.) and Ali Tso (Phoenix, Ariz.).

No offense to the other five, but one senior is nearer and dearer to Coach Tindall's heart -- her daughter Kai. They walked out together in pre-meet introductions, a ceremony the coach was not always certain would happen.

"It's lucky she made it this far. She hasn't had the most healthy career.

"I never would have thought that she would have developed enough to be a college gymnast in the first place. So the fact that she got to that point, was able to be a college gymnast and then get through four years of college gymnastics is pretty amazing."

Brougham Pavilion has been a second home for Kai, a place she spent countless hours while her mother mentored a multitude of gymnasts, both collegiate and club competitors. Laurel Tindall is in her 39th year as head coach of the Falcons.
"March-in was hard, really emotional," the coach and mother described. "Kailee had lots of fans and relatives here that had never seen her perform before, so that was great for them to have the opportunity to see her.

"Her career started at Brougham Pavilion in her very first meet as a little kid. It has come full circle and it's more than a Senior Night because she has competed at Brougham Pavilion a lot since she was little."

With the home portion of the schedule completed, the Falcons now face three consecutive road meets before postseason events.

These same two teams square off again Friday, Feb. 28 when Seattle Pacific visits Davis, Calif. for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
