VIDEO: Courtney Hollander and Jordan McPhee
SEATTLE – From the time they were freshmen, figuring out how they fit in on a national-caliber team,
Jordan McPhee and
Courtney Hollander were getting minutes … and scoring points.
As their seasons at Seattle Pacific went on, they kept getting more minutes …
… and kept scoring more points.
On Thursday night, all of those minutes and all of those points added up to an achievement that was, well …
… very grand, indeed.

SPU seniors McPhee and Hollander tallied 16 points apiece – including the 1,000
th of their careers for each of them – and the Falcons broke things open with a 27-8 outburst in the third quarter to beat Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game, 68-49.
SPU (17-5, 11-4 GNAC) snapped a two-game losing streak and moved closer to clinching a spot in the GNAC Tournament. The Falcons can secure it by beating Western Washington in Brougham on Saturday night.
McPhee and Hollander are the 23
rd and 24
th players in 43-year history of the varsity program to reach 1,000, and the first to do so since 2015. It was the fourth time two players have reached that milestone in the same season, and the first time that two made it on the same night.
"It's cool that Jordan and Courtney as freshmen got to play," head coach
Julie Heisey said. "They got valuable minutes in the conference tournament and valuable minutes in the national tournament, and they've kept on building.
"I'm really proud of them. They both bring it every day, they've both had to play through multiple injuries, and they want to win," Heisey added. "They're competitive, and they've worked really hard to get to this point. But as much as it's a great milestone, they want to get to postseason and make sure they go farther than ever before."
McPhee began the night in Brougham Pavilion needing just two points to reach 1,000. She got those with 2:40 left in the first quarter when she cut into the lane, was on the receiving end of a float pass from
Julia Haining, and threw a shot off the board from three feet away that banked into the basket.
"I didn't even know until someone texted me that they were coming to the game and said I was only two points away," McPhee said. "So I was like, 'Oh, I can do that.'"
Courtney Hollander,
coach Julie Heisey, and
Jordan McPhee after the game.
Hollander came in 11 points shy of a grand. She had six by halftime, then scored Seattle Pacific's first five within the opening minute of the third quarter – a deep two-pointer from the right corner at the 9:47 mark to reach 997, and then a 3-ponter from the left of the lane that bounced high off the back of the rim and dropped through the net with 9:06 showing.
"I had no idea – I thought it was going to happen later in the season," Hollander said. "It's an exciting, fun thing. But I had no idea until the end of the game."
SPU scored the first seven points of the game and had a 19-9 lead by the end of the opening quarter. But Simon Fraser went on a 16-4 run through the first seven minutes of the second and went up, 25-23.
The Falcons edged back in front by halftime, 29-27, traded baskets with the Clan to open the third quarter, then ran off nine in a row for a 40-29 advantage.
Simon Fraser (10-13, 5-10 GNAC), which had just seven players suited, never came closer than nine after that.
BY THE NUMBERS
-- McPhee wound up recording her second double-double of the season and fourth of her career by grabbing 10 rebounds.

-- Haining tied her career high with four steals.
--Thursday was the fourth time SPU has kept an opponent below 50 points this season.
