SEATTLE – Hailey Jackson and Asia Clarke had seven kills apiece, and Jackson also came up with two solo blocks on Friday afternoon as No. 11-ranked Cal State San Bernardino swept past Fresno Pacific in the Falcon-Wildcat Invitational volleyball tournament.
Scores in Seattle Pacific's Brougham Pavilion were 25-12, 25-15, 25-9.
A 14-1 scoring run in the opening game took the Coyotes (2-0) from 7-6 behind to 20-8 ahead. Senior setter Jayann DeHoog served up the last seven of those points.
San Bernardino raced to an 8-2 lead in Game 2. Fresno Pacific (0-2) then rang up 10 points in a row, with junior setter Sydney Rigby on the serve for the last nine of those.
The Coyotes responded with an 8-0 run, with freshman outside hitter Johanna Langarica serving the last seven. That put them up 16-12, and they went on to outscore Fresno Pacific 9-3 the rest of the way to go up two games.
In Game 3, Cal State San Bernardino put 11 straight points on the board, stretching a 6-3 lead to 17-3, with senior defensive specialist Hannah Barret serving 10 of those.
CSSB hit .271 for the match, with 36 kills and just 10 errors on 96 attacks. Moira Murphy (4-0-8), Mikaela Grove (3-0-4), and Amy Armstrong (2-0-2) all played error-free.
Fresno Pacific had 20 kills and hit just .010 (20-19-98). Caroline Bodziak led the Sunbirds with six kills.
