SEATTLE -- Brittney Taylor poured in 20 points and was one of five Humboldt State players in double figures on Friday afternoon as the Lumberjacks downed Central Washington in the opening game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic in Brougham Pavilion, 88-72.
Andrea Bobic added 16 points for Humboldt State, Paige Peterson had 14, Kayla Williams 12 and Taylor Kilgore 10. Bree Halsey pulled down 16 rebounds.
Central Washington was led by the 19 points of Sophie Russell. Amanda Murdoch added 12, and Brooke Fernandez tallied 10.
Seattle Pacific's women play their tournament opener at 5 p.m. Friday against Colorado Christian. The SPU men take the court right after that, tipping off against Dominican of California at 7.
The Lumberjacks (1-0) and Wildcats (0-1) both played their first official game of the season. Humboldt State went 2-1 in exhibition games, including a 96-84 victory against Division I Pacific. Central dropped its only exhibition, 101-49 to Division I Eastern Washington.
Humboldt State shot 52.5 percent for the game (22 of 61), draining 7 of 10 from behind the 3-point arc. Central Washington hit just 39.1 percent (27 of 69), and was 10 of 23 from downtown.
Central Washington's only lead of the game was at 3-0 on a trey by Sara Bergner. With the score tied at 5-5, Humboldt State ran off 10 straight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Andrea Bobic, to move in front for good.
Humboldt State meets the Seattle Pacific women on Saturday at 5 p.m. Central concludes its tournament schedule against Colorado Christian on Saturday afternoon at 1.
