SEATTLE –
Jessica Pixler, who has won numerous awards and honors for her accomplishments on the cross country trails and on the track for Seattle Pacific, is up for another one: the top women's honor at the
75th Annual Seattle Sports Star of the Year ceremony on Jan. 19 at Benaroya Hall. And this time, Falcon fans can have a say in the process by
casting their votes online.
Seattle sports fans will determine the winners in five different categories, including
Female Sports Star of the Year, for which Pixler is competing. Also up for a fan vote are Male Sports Star of the Year, Professional Sports Star of the Year, FSN Sports Play of the Year, and Sports Story of the Past 75 Years.
Pixler won four NCAA titles during the 2008-09 school year and started the 09-10 year with her third straight Division II cross country crown.
The event at Benaroya in downtown Seattle begins with a reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
Information on the nominees in each of the five categories is available by clicking on
this link. Voting may require downloading Microsoft Silverlight software.
Tickets are $75, and can be purchased online by clicking on
this link for the Benaroya Hall site, or by calling (206) 215-4747.
This year's event is being presented by MTR Western, in conjunction with the Seattle Sports Commission. It was known previously as the P-I Sports Star of the Year award when it was presented by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper. It was then-sports editor Royal Brougham, for whom SPU's primary athletic facility is named, who began the award in 1935.
