OLYMPIA -- Nate Sleight led a small group of Seattle Pacific runners to a fourth-place finish on Saturday morning at the Pete Steilberg Classic cross country meet in Olympia.
Sleight (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS), a Falcon sophomore, finished the 8-kilometer course at the Evergreen State College in 15th place, logging a time of 27 minutes, 29.61 seconds.
SPU totaled 87 points in the five-team meet. Simon Fraser, which will be joining the Falcons in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2010, won with 21 points.
Freshman Caleb Parker (Richland, Wash./Richland HS) followed Sleight by taking 17th in 28:07.51. Freshman Gavin Brand (Suwanee, Ga.) ran his first race as a Falcon and was 22nd in 29:17.62. Sophomore Nate Seely (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS) was 26th in 30:04.55; and freshman Lyle Emery (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) ran 28th in 30:14.75.
Seattle Pacific used the meet as a competition opportunity for its younger runners, as most of the varsity regulars did not compete.
