EUGENE, Ore. -- Amanda Alvarez is still flying it the triple jump. And teammate Jane Larson is still flying around the track.

Seattle Pacific freshman Alvarez won the triple on Saturday to highlight Seattle Pacific's performances in the Oregon Preview at Hayward Field. Alvarez (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) went 38 feet, 8¾ inches to win by nearly a full foot ahead of second-place Ashley Potter from Western Oregon (37-9½).

At the season-opening UPS Outdoor Preview on March 6, Alvarez went 39-0 1/4 to get onto the NCAA provisional qualifying list. The automatic mark is 39-10½.

Alvarez also was a provisional qualifier during the just-completed indoor season, having gone as far as 38-4, although she ultimately was not selected for the meet.

Jane Larson 2010
Senior distance star Larson (Fall City, Wash./Cedar Park Christian HS) logged a 2:11.75 for third place in the 800 meters. That put her way ahead of the NCAA provisional standard of 2:14.50 and within reach of the automatic time of 2:10.00. The top three runners were in the same heat on Saturday and finished within a second of each other. Chloe Steinbeck of Oregon won in 2:11.18; Emily McMahon of Eugene H & P was second in 2:11.55.

Senior Kate Harline, who competed last at the NCAA indoor championships in the mile on March 12, put herself within range of a spot on the outdoor provisional qualifying in the 1500. Harline (Orem, Utah) was 11th on Saturday in 4:38.51. The provisional standard is 4:38.00.

Alvarez, Larson and Harline all are automatic qualifiers for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships.

Four Falcon teammates joined them as GNAC automatic qualifiers.

Sophomore Alison Worthen (Coos Bay, Ore.) and freshman Katy Gross (Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) tied for third in the high jump at 5 feet, 5¾ inches. (Worthen officially took third because she needed just one attempt to clear that height.)

Freshman Athena Alvarez (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) went 35-10 in the triple jump to take seventh place and hit the GNAC automatic standard right on the money. Freshman Trinna Miranda (Tigard, Ore.) was eighth in the long jump at 17-1¼ to make the conference automatic list.

SPU juniors Jennifer Pike (Vancouver, Wash./Skyview HS) and Crystal Sims (Portland, Ore.) and sophomore Brittany Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) are scheduled to compete in the heptathlon at the Cal Multi meet on Tuesday and Wednesday in Berkeley, Calif. Then next Friday and Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif., the Falcons have 13 competitors entered in the prestigious Stanford Invitational.
