SEATTLE -- Seattle Pacific senior
Sherah Veron, who won the floor exercise competition and set a career-high on the vault Friday, was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday.
Veron led the Falcons to a season-high team total of 190.30 in a dual meet at 19th-ranked San Jose State.
She received a floor score of 9.875 from the judges, the highest point total for a Falcon in any event since 2010. The last time a higher SPU score was recorded was on Mar. 27, 2010 when Veron had a 9.90 first-place performance at the MPSF Championships in Seattle.
Veron's 9.875 ties for the top score in any event by an MPSF gymnast during the last two seasons.
On the vault, her score of 9.775 eclipsed the previous best of 9.75 she established in that event last season.
Veron's lofty mark enabled the Falcons to tally a 48.20 team score on vault. They did not surpass 48.00 on the vault in either of the last two seasons. Veron shared the MPSF Athlete of the Week honor with Melisssa Doucette from Alaska Anchorage.
A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., Veron ranked ninth among competitors from teams vying for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate title. The NCAA Division II Falcons are listed No. 4 in the USAG women's rankings.
The SPU gymnasts visit UC Davis on Friday for a 7 p.m. tri meet that also includes California. Their next home meet at Brougham Pavilion is Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. against Air Force.
