SEATTLE -- Seattle Pacific sophomore
Shannon Escarra, who won three individual events and the all-around on Friday, was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday.
Not only did Escarra monopolize titles in all but one event, she established two new career-high marks and tied another to help the Falcons post a season-high team score of 189.425 in their home meet against Air Force.
Escarra won the vault competition with a score of 9.725 that shattered her previous career high of 9.075. Her first-place floor score of 9.775 equaled her career-best and led an SPU sweep of the top-three places in that event.
She also topped the balance beam field, receiving a score of 9.725.
Escarra compiled an all-around total of 38.600. That was well ahead of last week's 36.475 in the season-opener at Sacramento State, her first college all-around performance. The last time SPU had an all-around mark in the 38s was Anissa Madrid's 38.475 in 2011.
A native of Fayetteville, Georgia, she prepped at Whitewater High School. Escarra is the 11th-rated all-around competitor among gymnasts from teams vying for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate title. The NCAA Division II Falcons are listed No. 7 in the USAG women's rankings.
The Seattle Pacific gymnasts hit the road for back-to-back competitions this weekend on Friday and Saturday at Alaska Anchorage. Both dual meets start at 8 p.m. Pacific Time.
