A buzzer-beating 3-pointer that brings the brings the fans leaping to their feet. A dramatic comeback that ends on a well-placed kill to the far corner.
A place to lift weights or do a cardio workout. Specific facilities for every team on campus, whether it’s lockers or team rooms or a shell house for the national-caliber rowing program. A sports medicine facility with experienced, certified athletic training professionals to tend to every athlete’s health needs.
Even a pleasant, comfortable lounge above the main gym for halftime chalk talks with the fans or team banquets, surrounded by photos and trophies and displays honoring legendary athletes and their legendary accomplishments.Â
All of this is Royal Brougham Pavilion, the home – and the heartbeat – of Seattle Pacific University athletics.Â
Originally built in 1953 and extensively expanded and renovated in 1990, Brougham is a go-to venue not only for SPU basketball and volleyball, but also for other athletic organizations around the Seattle area.Â
The gymnasium has 2,650 seats, including new theatre-stye seats installed in 2019. It can seat as many as 3,300 for concerts, religious gatherings, or guest speakers.Â
Its consummate combination of spaciousness and intimacy – and the vocal, supportive, high-decibel atmosphere that it creates – is one reason many athletes choose to come to SPU.Â
It is named for Royal Brougham, a longtime Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper sports writer and editor, and an avid supporter of local Christian school sports.Â
