Jason Durocher

Director of Sports Medicine

Phone: (206) 281-2768
Email: jasond@spu.edu
Jason Durocher is in his 16th year as Director of Sports Medicine at Seattle Pacific University.  Prior to beginning his tenure at SPU he worked nine years as the head athletic trainer at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.

Durocher received his master's in physical education/sports administration from Whitworth College (1999), and his bachelor's in physical education/athletic training emphasis from Fresno State (1997).

Durocher's experiences working at the conference, district and state levels to promote the athletic training profession have been numerous. His experience with a diverse athletic population through 25-plus years in the profession have added stability to an already-strong athletic support staff.

His wife, Caroline, is also a certified athletic trainer, now with the Army's 62nd Medical Brigade at JBLM. They currently reside in West Seattle. In his spare time, Durocher enjoys summer break to travel regionally, along with fishing, gardening, and exercising his German short-hair pointer, Griffey.

Michaela Peterson
Associate Athletic Trainer

Phone: TBD
E-mail: petersonm10@spu.edu

Michaela Peterson joined the SPU sports medicine / athletic training staff in August 2024.

Peterson was born in Indianapolis, but grew up in the Eastern Washington town of Medical Lake, 15 miles southwest of Spokane. She attended Medical Lake High School, where her interest in athletic training took root, thanks in part to an athletic training that was offered for the first time during her senior year.

She subsequently enrolled at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, earning her degree in kinesiology, with a minor in sports psychology, in 2021. She went on to the University of Utah for her master’s, and in the second year of that program did her clinicals at the University of Washington.

Basketball was Peterson’s main sport as an athlete. She also ran cross country and track, and those two sports will be her primary focus at Seattle Pacific. But she will have the opportunity to help out with other sports as needed.
