OVERVIEW
Puget Sound behind them. Rolling hills in front of them. Loud, supportive fans all around them.
Chambers Creek and cross country are made for each other.
The course, designed in part by SPU associate head coach and distance coach Chris Reed, is now a go-to destination for top-caliber competition. And at the top of that top-caliber list was the 2022 NCAA Division II national championships, hosted by Seattle Pacific as part of the Fall Sports Festival.
The course is essentially two loops that are linked together, whether it’s for a 6-kilometer women’s race, or for an 8- or 10-kilometer men’s race. Runners are on the grass almost every step of the way. The start is wide-open, and there are no monster hills – just enough rollers here and there to remind them that they are on a legitimate cross country course.
For those who come out to support them, Chambers Creek is very fan friendly – that is to say, there are no woods that the runners duck into for any stretch of time. Fans who like to jog (or walk fast) to different points on the course have ample opportunities to do so.
