SEATTLE – (OCT 18) Alyssa Given hit her way into history Thursday night, serving up three aces and totaling 16 kills en route to a Seattle Pacific University sweep of Saint Martin's University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match at Brougham Pavilion.
In front of a home crowd for the first time in over two weeks, the Falcons (5-6, 10-9), made short work of the Saints (2-10, 2-20), sweeping their way to victory in 95 minutes by virtually identical match scores of 30-25, 30-24, and 30-25.
Given eclipsed Gaylene MacDonald's 1987 mark for season service aces at SPU in the third game, raising her season total to 60. Four more aces will give Given the GNAC career aces record as well, which currently stands at 182, held by Erika Brunson of Seattle University.
Angie Wodrich stole the top spot in the match from Given, smashing down 17 kills and 10 digs for the evening.
Jessica Bettencourt had the final kill of the match, and paired seven kills with two blocks on an astounding .636 clip overall.
Shealun Campisi led SMU with 10 kills, while Andrea Tarbet hit for nine and a team high14 digs.
SPU won the battle at the net, out blocking the Saints 12 to four. Wodrich led the way with five while freshman teammate Kylie Johnson had her best night of the year with four blocks and four kills.
The Falcons close out their brief homestead against GNAC Co-Leader Western Oregon University Saturday at 7 p.m.
