SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 24)—Kara Hamby and Becca Woods each scored goals as No. 2-ranked Seattle Pacific University maintained its perfect record in dealing 10th-ranked Seattle University a 2-0 loss in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.
The victory assures the Falcons at least a share of the GNAC title. With two regular season matches remaining, Seattle Pacific is undefeated at 18-0/12-0GNAC. Seattle University dropped to 15-3-0/10-2-0 GNAC.
Hamby drilled a penalty-kick at 23:29 after teammate Jocelyn Charette was taken down in the penalty box following a 30-yard run downfield after a Janae Godoy thru ball from the middle third.
SU Keeper Kaitlyn Jackson collided with Charette, and could not get a hand on Hamby's shot to the low left corner on the ensuing penalty.
Woods nodded home Meredith Teague's free-kick from the left corner at 47:37 to finalize scoring. Teague's free-kick notched her team-leading 12th assist on the season.
With 29 minutes remaining, Jasmine Wilson had a chance to pull a goal back for the Redhawks. Ashley Porter's cross from the left lofted through the box, and Falcon keeper Jesslyn Rahm was able to make a diving save, pushing Wilson's header around the left post.
Seattle Pacific out-shot the visitor 10-9. SU earned a half-dozen corner-kicks to the Falcons' 3. Rahm had four saves in goal; Jackson, who leads the NCAA in shutouts, had a pair.
The winner of the GNAC earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. First round games are slated to begin Nov. 8. Seattle Pacific has been to playoffs in each of Coach Chuck Sekyra's four years.
The Falcons finish out the regular schedule with a pair of road matches, beginning with a 12-Noon kick-off at Montana State-Billings on Saturday (Oct. 27).
