SEATTLE (Sept. 12) – Janae Godoy scored the game-winning goal with just under 17 minutes remaining to lift 8th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to a 1-0 victory over Central Washington in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.

The win pushed Seattle Pacific to a perfect 7-0-0 on the season and marked its third consecutive shutout. Central Washington dropped to 3-3-0.

Godoy (So., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) broke the stalemate in the 73rd minute. She took advantage when a Central defender slipped near the right corner of the box.

Godoy quickly controlled the ball and pushed toward goal. Her 15-yard strike hit the far corner of the net.

Wildcats keeper Aneesa Gonzales registered a pair of saves in the contest as did SPU keeper Jesslyn Rahm (So., Eugene, Or./South Eugene). The Falcons have five shutouts and have allowed only two goals thus far.

Seattle Pacific out-shot the visitors 13-2 and had a 3-0 edge in corners.

Central challenged Rahm with several long attempts in the first half, and played a physical game on defense.

The pace of the game quickened in the second half. With 37 minutes remaining, Shannon Oakes (Jr., Boise, Id.) broke free on a run down the left center and ripped a hard, spinning shot toward the far post that missed just wide right.

Two minutes later, Kara Hamby (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Mead) crossed from the right corner but Amanda Johnson's (Fr., Duvall, Wa./Cedarcrest) header hit the near post.

SPU hosts Western Washington Saturday afternoon (Sept. 15) at 3.
