SEATTLE (Sept. 27) – Rhea Cardwell smashed the final two kills for Alaska Anchorage in the decisive fifth game to give the Seawolves their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference win of the volleyball season at the expense of Seattle Pacific University Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Joanna Johnson had a team-high 15 kills for the Seawolves (1-5, 5-8) who were victorious over the Falcons (3-3, 8-6) by scores of 30-28, 30-28, 19-30, 19-30, 15-9.

The Seawolves jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in games, but SPU fought back to force a fifth game. UAA shot lights out over SPU in the fifth game though, out hitting the Falcons .368 to .125.

Alyssa Given led the charge for Seattle Pacific, cracking 25 kills, 10 of which came in game one. Given also had three blocks and two aces on a .322 hitting percentage.

Angie Wodrich had a career-best 19 kills and 13 digs in the loss, while teammate Joelle Perez served up four aces and set for a match-high 48 assists.

Given needs 20 kills to eclipse the school record for career kills, held by Leilani Kamahoahoa. Given is also a mere eight aces away from shattering Gaylene MacDonald's season mark of 59.

The Falcons host Alaska Fairbanks Saturday at 7.
