BURNABY, B.C. –
Kelsey Jenkins converted a 20-yard free kick with less than eight minutes to play Thursday, lifting 13th-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 2-1 women's soccer victory over Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference rematch at Terry Fox Field.
SPU sophomore
Brittany Langdon (Irvine, Calif.) opened the scoring at 15:59 on a put-back of a blocked
Brandi Hamre (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap HS) free kick for her fourth goal of the season.
After the Clan tied the game 1-1 at 23:31 on a header by Lauren Lachlan, neither team scored for over 59 minutes. Jenkins (Kent, Wash./Ketwood HS) ended that lengthy scoreless stretch at 82:41 with her fourth goal of the year. That was the fourth career game-winning goal for the junior midfielder.
Defending conference champion SPU (11-1-2) extended its lead in the standings to five points, improving to 8-1-1 in GNAC play for 25 points. Second-place Western Washington tied Central Washington 1-1 on Thursday and has 20 points with a 6-2-2 record. Third-place Montana State Billings is stuck on 18 points with a 6-4-0 record after losing 2-1 at Saint Martin's.
Simon Fraser (6-4-2) remains in fourth place with a 5-3-2 conference record.
The Clan battled SPU to a scoreless draw on Oct. 2 in Seattle despite being outshot by a 16-5 margin. The Falcons had a large advantage again on Thursday, outshooting SFU 12-6.
