SEATTLE -- A long-time college men's soccer rivalry is renewed Wednesday with first place on the line.

Simon Fraser is the first Canadian school to receive membership into the NCAA. The Clan began playing a Division II schedule this fall. They joined the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, meaning they will annually play Seattle Pacific after a three-year hiatus.

The clash of the conference's two remaining undefeated teams takes place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 at SPU's Interbay Stadium. At 3-0-1 with 10 points in the league standings, the first-place Falcons are off to their finest start ever in GNAC play. Their previous best after four games was 3-1-0 in 2001 and 2004.

Simon Fraser is one point back with a 3-0-0 league ledger, but has played one fewer game. Wednesday's winner claims sole possession of first place while a tie keeps the Falcons atop the standings.

The Clan have a perfect 8-0 overall record and are outscoring opponents by a remarkable 25-2 margin. They have six shutouts and the other two foes managed just a single goal.

SPU (3-4-2) brings a three-game winning streak into this important encounter, having outscored opponents 7-2 during that span.

Reigning GNAC Player of the Week Andy Wolverton (Portland, Ore.) has a team-leading four goals for the Falcons. The senior midfielder registered a hat trick in the last outing with a trio of goals during SPU's 4-2 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.

This will be the first meeting since the Clan won 2-1 on Oct. 16, 2006 at SPU. The teams did not play the last three seasons after meeting at least once in each of the previous 32 years dating to 1975.

The Falcons own a 19-16-6 lead in the all-time series.

The SPU men are in pursuit of their first GNAC title since 2006. They placed third last season and second in 2008.
