SEATTLE – Megan Pinske scored all five of her points inside the opening three minutes Saturday as the Western Washington women tallied the game's first 13 points en route to a 58-24 win over San Francisco State on the final day of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic.
Saturday's result gave WWU's Carmen Dolfo her 400th career coaching victory. The Vikings (2-0) won both of their tournament games at Seattle Pacific's Brougham Pavilion. They defeated UC San Diego 82-64 on Friday.
Western hit five of its first six shots, including all three 3-point attempts. Pinske started the surge with a trey 26 seconds into the game and made a fastbreak layup with 17:17 left in the first half that forged the 13-0 lead.
The Gators (0-2) got their first point at 16:53 when Dominique Hunter converted the second of two free throws.
SFSU made its first basket 6:25 into the game. A jumper by Nicole Hicks drew the Gators within 15-4. That is as close as they would get the rest of the way as WWU recorded leads of 28-4 and 37-11 before settling on a 37-15 halftime advantage.
Western shot 46 percent (12 of 26) in the first half, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range. The Vikings forced 15 first-half turnovers while limiting SFSU to 33 percent shooting (5 of 15).
Amanda Dunbar scored 11 points to lead WWU, which also got 10 from Lauren Hefflin.
Hunter paced San Francisco with five points.
The Gators hit just 4 of 25 second-half shots and were outscored 21-9 after halftime. They finished with 25 turnovers for the game to only 12 for WWU.
The Vikings' lead grew to as many as 37 points in the second half.
San Francisco lost both of its Sodexo Classic games, including a 46-42 setback against host SPU on Friday.
