SPOKANE, Wash. -- Sixteen student-athletes from the Seattle Pacific men's and women's soccer teams were named to the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Star team that was released Wednesday.

Comprised of nine women and seven men, the Falcons' contingent was the largest of any school in the league.

SPU senior Andy Wolverton, a business administration major from Portland, Ore., compiled a 3.97 grade point average that topped all GNAC men's soccer players. He headed a list of seven SPU men that formed the largest group of any school in the conference.

Wolverton was joined on the academic squad by teammates Drew Williams (3.60), Griffin Fahling (3.47), Christopher Morris (3.46), Caleb Nyone (3.37), Danny Brill (3.33) and Tyler Schultz (3.31). Wolverton was honored by the conference for the third straight season and Williams was a two-time honoree.

The SPU men (9-5-2) are in second place in the standings with a 6-1-1 record.

Boasting the best GPA among the nine SPU women was junior Kelsey Jenkins, a political science major from Kent, Wash. (Kentwood HS) with a 3.96.

The other Falcons on the women's academic team were Heidi Laabs-Johnson (3.69), Savanna Hanson (3.68), Hannah Masson (3.58), Amanda Johnson (3.56), Janie Wurth (3.43), Andrea Chan (3.40), Brittany Langdon (3.38) and Megan Lindsay (3.22).

Johnson made her third consecutive appearance on the academic squad while Jenkins, Laabs-Johnson, Hanson and Wurth were repeat selections.

The Falcons (14-1-2) have already clinched the women's conference championship with an 11-1-1 record. They earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament and will participate in the playoffs for the eighth straight season.

A total of 76 student-athletes – 53 women and 23 men - were named to the GNAC Soccer Academic teams.

To be eligible for the GNAC academic team, student-athletes were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at the university.
