SEATTLE -- Synchro Bull scored 15 points, including a runner on a broken play with 50 seconds left to give Chico State a five-point lead, then hit two free throws with 22.3 seconds left, as the Wildcats knocked off Western Washington 79-68 in the first round of the NCAA Division II women's basketball West Regionals on Friday at Brougham Pavilion.

Natasha Smith added 11 points for Chico State (22-9), which turned the tables on Western Washington after dropping a 80-59 decision in Bellingham in late December.

Western (23-5), the third seed in the regional tournament, was led by the 27 points of Jessica Summers, who got 17 of those during the first half. Amanda Dunbar added 18.

Chico State, seeded No. 6 in the region, was down 64-61 with 5:40 left in the game when it put together a 6-0 scoring run and never trailed again. Bull brought the Wildcats within one at 64-63on a lay-in, then Melissa Richardson hit a lay-in on a pass from Smith at the 4:15 mark for a 65-64 lead.

It was 71-68 for the Wildcats when a play broke down, but Bull wound up with the ball. Her runner from the right side of the hoop dropped in for a 73-68 advantage, and Chico went on to score the next six points, finishing the game on an 8-0 run.

The Wildcats will take on the winner of the UC San Diego-Humboldt State game in the regional semifinals at 5 p.m. Saturday in Brougham Pavilion.
