SEATTLE – A trio of Seattle Pacific gymnasts, Anissa Madrid, Samantha Taylor and Sherah Veron, were honored Tuesday as members of the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) team.

Madrid, a junior, earned all-conference accolades for her performances this season in the all-around, uneven bars and balance beam. The product of Burien's Kennedy High School boasts the Falcons' best all-around score of 38.400. Madrid compiled that total on two occasions this season.

She has a high mark of 9.70 on the bars and 9.75 on beam. Madrid finished seventh in the all-around during Saturday's MPSF Championships at Brougham Pavilion.

At that meet, SPU sophomore Veron (Broken Arrow, Okla.) won the conference championship in the floor exercise. She received a score of 9.90, the highest by a Falcon on any apparatus this year. Veron garnered All-MPSF acclaim in the vault and floor.

Another sophomore, Taylor (San Carlos, Calif.), was named to the All-MPSF squad as an all-arounder. Her high combined score for the four events is 38.275. Taylor has the best bars score this season for SPU with a mark of 9.775.

The Falcons finished second at the MPSF meet with a season-high score of 192.850.

Senior Tanya Ho of conference champion UC Davis was named the Gymnast of the Year.

Air Force collected the other two MPSF awards. Doug Day was named the Coach of the Year and Nelle Barriteau was the Assistant Coach of the Year.

Seattle Pacific learned on Monday that it had qualified for the 2010 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. The Falcons will compete in the eight-team meet scheduled for April 15-17 at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.

SPU has won three national championships in gymnastics. They captured the 1986 NCAA Division II crown and the 1992 and 1997 titles after USA Gymnastics took over as the sponsor.

The collegiate national championships include primarily NCAA Division II and III members. Some Division I schools that choose to adhere to the limit of 7 1/2 scholarships also compete at the USAG meet.
