SEATTLE - The Seattle Pacific women's gymnastics team was recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) for its scholastic accomplishments during the 2010 season. The Falcons combined to accumulate a 3.36 team grade point average, the 29th-highest in the nation.

The NACGC awards include all collegiate women's gymnastics teams regardless of division. The Falcons were the highest ranked team among NCAA Division II competitors.

Six SPU gymnasts were singled out for NACGC Scholastic All-America recognition, all of them compiling GPAs of 3.75 or higher.

Heading the list of SPU's academic honorees was sophomore Aditi Kulkarni, who boasted the team's top GPA at 3.98. The Lakewood, Colo. native is an accounting major.

Two Falcons juniors were honored for their academic success; Laura Willis (Temecula, Calif.) and Betsy Snook (Milwaukie, Ore.). As a competitor, Willis garnered All-America honors for her 10th place performance on the bars at the 2010 national championships. She is a business major with a 3.93 GPA.

Snook registered a 3.86 GPA while studying exercise science.

Rounding out the list of SPU scholar-athletes were sophomores Texie Gregory (Auburn, Calif.), Samantha Taylor (San Carlos, Calif.) and Haylee Yepson (Napa, Calif.).

Gregory posted a 3.79 GPA in a business curriculum.

Taylor received second-team All-America recognition as an event finals alternate in both the vault and beam. She tied for 16th in the all-around competition. Taylor is an integrated studies major with a 3.79 GPA.

Yepson recorded a 3.75 major while studying biology.

Seattle Pacific scored 187.925 team points to finish third in its semifinal session at the USAG Collegiate Championships on April 15 in Denton, Texas. The Falcons missed qualifying for the four-team finals by one place.

SPU qualified for the championship meet for the 28th time in the last 29 years. The Falcons have won three national titles, in 1986, 1992 and 1997.
