SEATTLE – Although she has moved on to the University of Colorado for post-graduate work – and another season of outdoor track –
Jessica Pixler is still helping to keep Seattle Pacific in the academic spotlight.
Pixler has just been named the Division II indoor and outdoor track Scholar Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The coaches group annually selects a track athlete and a field athlete for its top academic honor for both the winter indoor and spring outdoor seasons. Pixler (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake HS) swept the track athlete awards by virtue of her 3.93 grade-point average as an English major and by winning two indoor titles (mile and as part of the distance medley relay) and one outdoor title (1,500 meters).
It is the third time she has won the indoor award and her second time picking up the outdoor honor. She is the only multiple winner of either award. Pixler also won three straight USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year awards for Division II cross country.
But Pixler wasn't the only Falcon on the USTFCCCA list. Also collecting awards were six teammates from the Seattle Pacific women's squad and two Falcon men.
In addition, both SPU teams earned All-Academic honors.
Joining Pixler on the women's side were now-graduated seniors
Lisa Anderberg (Edmonds, Wash./Kamiak HS),
Kate Harline (Orem, Utah) and
Jane Larson (Fall City, Wash./Cedar Park Christian HS), current senior
Jennifer Pike (Vancouver, Wash./Skyview HS), current junior
Natty Plunkett (Bellevue, Wash./Newport HS) and freshman
Amanda Alvarez (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS).
Earning spots on the men's list were senior Chad Meis (Renton, Wash./Seattle Christian HS) and current sophomore Nate Seely (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS). Meis, an electrical engineering major, has completed his eligibility in cross country and outdoor track, but has one more season of indoor track remaining for the Falcons.
SPU gained a spot among the All-Academic women's teams with a combined GPA of 3.38. The men's squad made the cut with a 3.22.
