HONOLULU, Hawaii – They filled the stat sheet, but the goal remained empty Wednesday night as the 17th-ranked Seattle Pacific women settled for a 0-0 tie against BYU-Hawaii in a non-conference game at the Waipio Soccer Park.

The Falcons (2-0-1) assaulted the BYU goal, compiling a 29-11 shot advantage. That was just three attempts shy of SPU's single-game record of 32 shots, established at Northwest Nazarene in 2008.

“We played outstanding. Our defense was awesome and we created a ton of chances,” SPU coach Chuck Sekyra described.

Seattle Pacific had several near misses, including three shots that caromed off the crossbar.

Megan McCain was the hero for the Seasiders (1-0-1), amassing 11 saves. Two of those stops came during the two, 10-minute overtime sessions during which the Falcons outshot BYU 5-1.

Senior Maddie Dickinson (Vancouver, Wash./Skyview HS) was also stellar in goal. She was credited with six saves. Dickinson has not surrendered a goal this season in 290 minutes between the posts.

“Maddie was awesome. She came off the line well and had a one-v-one save off their only chance of the game to stop a goal,” said Sekyra. “She played great.”

Dickinson now has 22 career shutouts, drawing within three of the school's all-time leader Jennifer Hull who blanked 25 opponents from 2001-04.

Junior forward Brandi Hamre (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap HS) led the Falcons attack with eight shots. Unlike this season's first two games, she was kept off the scoreboard Wednesday.

Hamre netted two goals in SPU's season-opening 3-0 victory over Humboldt State on Sept. 3. She deposited the game-winner in the 22nd minute of Monday's 1-0 win over Hawaii Hilo.

“I'm really proud of our team. We are tired. We are banged up and we had some kids just play fantastic soccer tonight,” Sekyra concluded.

The Falcons play their third straight game at the Waipio Soccer Park, completing their road trip on Saturday (Sept. 11) against Hawaii Pacific.
