SEATTLE – The last time
Chad Meis had a competitive race was last spring. But the Seattle Pacific distance star was right back in form on Saturday.
Meis posted an automatic qualifying time for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships in the mile, clocking a 4:15.48 in the season-opening UW Indoor Preview at Dempsey Indoor on the University of Washington campus.
Meis came through with that time in spite of getting boxed in at the start, and he later clipped heels with a fellow competitor coming around a turn.
Wearing Falcon colors for one final season of indoor track while he completes his degree, Meis will get additional tries this season at the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:12.60, and at his own school record of 4:11.39, which he set last winter.
While Meis was Seattle Pacific's only automatic GNAC qualifier, four other Falcons bettered conference provisional qualifying standards.
Sophomore
Nate Johnson (Boise, Idaho) did it in the 60 hurdles and in the pole vault. Sophomore
Ryan Endresen (Portland, Ore.) made it in the 60 hurdles, freshman
Ray Zoellick (Bothell, Wash./Cedar Park Christian HS) earned a provisional spot in the pole vault, as did senior

The Falcons return to the track at Dempsey indoor on Jan. 28 and 29 in the UW Invitational.
