SPOKANE, Wash. – Tyler Schultz, who netted both game-winning goals for 20th-ranked Seattle Pacific, received the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award for men's soccer on Monday.

A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Schultz compiled four goals and an assist last week for SPU, which improved its record to 11-2-2. He led a 5-0 home win over the University of Mary on Thursday with two goals and an assist. Schultz had another two-score performance on Saturday in a 3-0 victory at Saint Martin's.

The SPU senior leads the league with 13 goals, five of them coming during the last three outings. Schultz also leads the conference in total points (29) and game-winning goals (6).

He ranks fourth among all-time GNAC players with 35 career goals. His next goal will move Schultz into the No. 10 spot among Seattle Pacific's all-time scorers. He ranks third in the GNAC career record book with 13 game-winning goals and it fifth with 78 points.

“To me he is playing like the player of the year in our conference," exclaimed SPU coach Mark Collings. "He's scored a lot of timely goals for us and he's always a threat when he gets the ball. He's doing all this even with teams keying on him and being aware of him.”

Schultz is leading all Falcons scorers for the third straight season. He topped the team with 10 goals in 2010 and eight in 2009.

This marks the fourth time Schultz has received the weekly conference honor, including once earlier this season on Sept. 26.

The second-place Falcons will bring a 5-1-1 GNAC record into Thursday's home game against unbeaten and top-ranked Simon Fraser, the league leader. That battle of ranked rivals is slated for 7 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.
