SEATTLE – No post-Christmas letdown for this group of Seattle Pacific Falcons.

Nyesha Sims had 14 points and 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double, and Seattle Pacific led from start to finish on Thursday night in a 74-51 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball rout of Western Oregon.

Senior forward Sims (Portland, Ore.) tied her career high with the 13 boards – the second time she has reached that total this season and the third time overall. Sims now now has four double-doubles in SPU's last five games and nine for her career.

Sophomore forward Katie Benson (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish HS) added 11 points for the Falcons (8-3, 2-1 GNAC).

Sophomore guard Betsy Kingma (Bellevue, Wash./Newport HS) added 10 points. That pushed Kingma past 100 points for her career. She now has 106.

“I think our kids used the time off really well,” head coach Julie Heisey said. “We came out of our (Christmas break), and I go, 'Wow, we haven't missed a beat in our practices.' Our shooting – usually you would think we would lose a lot (of shooting touch), but I think our kids put a lot of shots up over Christmas break, and that was all on their own.”

Western Oregon (3-10, 2-1 GNAC) was led by the 13 points of GNAC leading scorer Rylee Peterson, who got all of them in the second half after missing her first nine shots of the game and picking up her fourth foul less than a minute after halftime. Peterson, who hit just 6 of 17 on Thursday, came in averaging 17.3 points per game, just a shade in front of the 17.1 average of SPU's Benson.

“We came out the first half, and our goal the whole (time) was just to get better on defense,” Heisey said. “Our kids have really worked hard on that going into the break. I kind of thought tonight might be a little rough because we only had two practices after six days off. But I thought we came out defensively and played really well.”

SPU takes on Saint Martin's on Saturday afternoon at 4, just a few hours before dawn of 2012.

The Falcons scored the first four points of the game and quickly built a 20-4 lead. The margin never dipped below double-digits the rest of the night. It was 39-16 at halftime, and the closest Western Oregon got in the second half was 17, the last time at 53-36 with 8:27 left.

SPU beat the Wolves for the 27th consecutive time. Western Oregon won the first two games of the all-time series between the teams in the 1981-82 season, but has not beaten the Falcons since then.

Seattle Pacific dominated on the boards, 49-27. In addition to Sims' 13, senior center Joani Reimer (Ferndale, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) pulled down 7.

The Falcons also handed out 21 assists on their 27 baskets, led by the five of sophomore guard Aubree Callen (Jerome, Idaho). Callen also had three rebounds, giving her an even 100 for her career.
