SEATTLE – Tyler Schultz and Drew Williams each contributed a goal and assist Thursday, leading Seattle Pacific to a 2=0 men's soccer victory over Northwest Nazarene in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Falcons improved their record to 2-1-1 overall with their second straight win. NNU suffered its first setback, dropping to 3-1-1.

Schultz (Scottsdale, Ariz.) created a goal just 4:46 into the game after receiving a pass from Williams (Bend, Ore.) on the right sideline, 40 yards from the goal. He dribbled down the flank and then across the goal line before sneaking a 15-yard shot inside the right post from a sharp angle. That was the second goal of the season for Schultz, tying him for the team lead.

Williams still isn't sure how Schultz slipped the ball between the post and goalkeeper.

"I played a little curving ball into Tyler," Williams described. "He slipped around the corner like a wet noodle and somehow managed to get it in."

Williams extended the lead at 29:09 with his first goal of the year. Ryan Brand back-heeled a pass to Schultz who then served a cross from the left wing. Crusaders goalkeeper Zander Engeman dove to deflect the cross and Williams was there at the far post to kick in the carom.

"Tyler just ripped it into a dangerous area. I was just going back post to get any garbage that came out," Williams said. "I don't even know what happened when I hit the ball. I just got a foot on it, looked up and it was in the goal."

SPU registered a commanding 19-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 margin in attempts directly on goal. Engemann prevented additional damage with six saves for NNU.

Junior goalkeeper Zach Johnson (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish HS) stopped one shot for SPU en route to his second shutout.

The Falcons close out their season-opening, five-game homestand on Saturday against Montana State Billings. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.
