DAVIS, Calif. –
Stephanie Wagner placed third on the balance beam and set a career-high on the uneven bars Friday for NCAA Division II Seattle Pacific which finished behind Division I competitors California and UC Davis in a women's gymnastics meet at The Pavilion.
The Falcons third-place total was 189.275 points, their second-highest score of the season behind a 190.300 registered last week at San Jose State.
Wagner (Estacada, Ore.) received a mark of 9.675 on the beam, the same score that placed her sixth in the bars competition. That eclipsed her previous bars best of 9.575 established in the Jan. 13 season opener.
“She did a great job on bars and beam,” SPU coach
Laurel Tindall said. “Stephanie didn't hit her best floor routine, but her other events were really good.”
Wagner has been model of consistency on the beam for the Falcons, posting the team's highest score on that event in all three meets this season.
California won the team title with a score 191.750 led by three event titlists. Dallas Crawford won the uneven bars (9.80) while Mariesah Pierce topped the floor exercise field (9.825) and tied for top honors on the beam (9.700) with Katie Yamamura of UC Davis.
The host Aggies compiled a second-place team total of 191.600 fueled by Yamamura's winning all-around score of 39.125. She recorded a first-place vault of 9.85.
SPU opened the meet on bars and totaled a 47.00 as a team. Along with Wagner (9.675),
Kenley Memmel (9.35) and
Cara Lord (9.075) set career-high marks in that event.
The Falcons moved to the beam and produced a 47.55, including
Aditi Kulkarni's sixth-place mark of 9.60. Freshman
Shannon Escarra matched her career-best effort of 9.55.
The third rotation saw SPU combine for a score of 47.70 on the floor. Memmel hit another career-high, this time a sixth-place score of 9.65.
The final event was the Falcons finest with a collective 48.025 vault performance.
Sherah Veron tied for fifth with a mark of 9.675 and
Lari Wilson's seventh-place score of 9.55 matched her career best. Memmel recorded her third career-high of the meet, receiving a score of 9.575.
The Seattle Pacific gymnasts return home to host a dual meet against Air Force on Friday at 7 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion.
