SEATTLE – Ali Martin assisted on the first goal and scored the fourth for the Seattle Pacific women, who defeated Northwest Nazarene 4-1 on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference soccer game at Interbay Stadium.

SPU (9-2-2) extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 6-0-2 mark during that span. The Falcons improved their conference record to 6-1-2.

Heather Young (Lacombe, Alberta) opened the scoring at 25:18 on a six-yard shot into the left side of the goal for her third score of the season. She received a low pass from Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) who had dribbled into the right side of the box.

Demi Waitley (Coronado, Calif.) posted what proved to be the game-winner on a 12-yard strike from the left side into the lower right corner. Annie Thomas (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) sent a long through ball to Megan Lindsay (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep HS) who dribbled into the box and drew the goalkeeper off her line before distributing the ball for Waitley's first goal of the season.

Kaylie Winston (Pacso, Wash./Pasco HS) netted the third tally at 48:25 before Martin capped SPU's scoring with her team-leading sixth goal. Martin struck a fantastic 30-yard free kick that nicked off the upper-left corner crossbar before nestling into the goal at 56:53.

The four-goal total was the highest of the season for SPU, which has a trio of three-goal efforts to its credit. Thursday also marked the largest winning margin with a three-goal differential.

“We're just really coming together as a team and really figuring it out,” Waitley said of her Falcons team that outscored its last three opponents by a combined 7-1 margin.

“We're finding out who we are and it's been fun. We're playing good.”

The Crusaders (6-7-0) fell to 3-6-0 in GNAC games. They averted the shutout when Sarah Staropoli pushed a six-yard shot into the left side of the SPU goal at 63:28.

Junior goalkeeper Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) was credited with two saves for the Falcons, who outshot NNU 15-7.

Tanya Zickefoose stopped four shots for the Crusaders.

The second-place SPU women remain at home to host third-place Montana State Billings on Saturday. Kick-off is 1 p.m. at Interbay Stadium. They can leap-frog the Yellowjackets in the GNAC standings with a win Saturday.
