SEATTLE – Saturday was designated as “Senior Day” at Interbay Stadium as the final regular-season home game for the Seattle Pacific women's soccer team. A senior forward turned it into “Megan Lindsay Day.”

Lindsay tallied two goals for the second straight game, helping SPU extend its winning streak to seven games with a 2-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference home victory over Western Oregon.

The Falcons (12-2-2) remain in second place with a 9-1-2 league ledger. They trail GNAC-leading Western Washington (11-1-0) by four points with two regular-season games remaining.

SPU finished its home slate with an 8-0-1 record and stretched its undefeated streak to 11 games, posting a 9-0-2 record during that span.

After a scoreless first half, Lindsay (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) put the Falcons on the board with an unassisted strike at 64:49. She fired a shot from the right side of the box that was blocked by WOU goalkeeper Hillary Lutz. Lindsay gathered the rebound and slipped a low, 10-yard shot between Lutz and the right post that carried across the goal and into the left side-netting.

She struck again 14 minutes later after sophomore Ali Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) dribbled into the left side of the box before dropping off a back-pass. Lindsay collected the ball and lofted a shot over Lutz from 14 yards out at 78:35.

Lindsay increased her team-leading goal total to 10. Seven of those scores came during the last six games.

The senior forward nearly notched a hat trick Saturday. Her diving header in the 69th minute was disallowed due to an offside call and another header, with 3:48 left to play, was denied by a diving save from the WOU goalkeeper.

Lutz had several impressive stops among her total of six saves for WOU (7-8-1), which dropped to 5-6-1 in conference play.

Starter Alexa Hughes (Everett, Wash./Archbishop Murphy HS) and substitute Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) combined for SPU's fifth shutout. Each played a half in goal and neither needed to make a save as their team outshot the Wolves 18-6, including 10-1 in the second half.

The recent hot streak continued for Lindsay, who accounted for at least one goal or assist in each of the last seven games. She compiled seven goals and three assists during that stretch.

Lindsay ranks third among all-time SPU scorers with 39 career goals and needs three more to reach 42 and tie Shannon Lovejoy (2002-05) in the No. 2 spot. Sarah Martinez (2004-07) is the school record-holder with 49 goals.

“Megan played brilliantly today. She's just making really great decisions with the ball and coming up with different finishing ideas,” Sekyra said. “She's making good decisions all over the field, when to take on, when to pass, when to shoot. The game is coming easier for her right now.”

Before the game, Lindsay shared the spotlight with classmates Brittany Langdon (Irvine, Calif.) and Kendall Thoreson (Seattle, Wash.), who were honored with a pregame senior ceremony.

Sekyra praised his trio of seniors.

“It's a group of character. It's a group of strong women who have done a lot for this program. I have a ton of respect for them.”

All three seniors were in the starting lineup, including Thoreson, who has been sidelined the last two seasons with an injury. The opening kick-off was immediately booted out of play, enabling Thoreson to be replaced.

“We obviously would have like to get Kendall on the field longer,” said Sekyra. “It was neat to see the other two contribute. Megan had a great game and Brittany got us off to a great start as far as winning balls and fighting out there.”

The Falcons close out the regular season on the road next week. They travel to Burnaby, B.C. to play Simon Fraser on Thursday before visiting Bellingham on Saturday for a clash with first-place Western Washington. Both games start at 7 p.m.
