SEATTLE –
Riley Dopps netted two of four first-half goals for 21st-ranked Seattle Pacific, which defeated Simon Fraser 4-0 on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game at Terry Fox Field.
The Falcons (13-2-2) secured second place in the GNAC with a 10-1-2 record. They won their eighth straight game and are unbeaten in the last 12 games.
Simon Fraser (1-15-0) remained winless in 13 league outings.
Dopps (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap HS) found the Clan goal twice in a span of 10-minutes, 24-seconds. Her first tally came at 11:58 off an
Ali Martin pass. Dopps scored again at 22:22, finishing a cross from
Heather Young with her fourth goal of the season.
Megan Lindsay (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) netted an unassisted goal at 39:03 for her league-leading 11th goal. She has scored in four straight games, with six goals during that stretch.
Lindsay received the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday. She registered at least one goal or assist in each of the past eighth games with eight goals and three assists during that stretch.
Lindsay ranks third among all-time SPU scorers with 40 career goals and needs two more to reach 42 and tie Shannon Lovejoy (2002-05) in the No. 2 spot. Sarah Martinez (2004-07) is the school record-holder with 49 goals.
Kaylie Winston (Pasco, Wash./Pasco HS) capped the scoring at 40:09 with her third goal of the year.
Junior goalkeeper
Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) was required to stop just one shot for SPU before being replaced in the 76th minute by
Courtney Shearer. A freshman, Shearer (Bend, Ore.) did not make a save in her Falcons debut.
Those two goalkeepers combined for SPU's fifth shutout.
Amanda Gilliland amassed nine saves for Simon Fraser, which was outshot by a 17-6 margin.
The Falcons close out the regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Bellingham against Western Washington. The 14th-ranked Vikings defeated Central Washington 1-0 on Thursday to clinch the GNAC crown end SPU's three-year reign as champion.
The SPU women won this season's first meeting, a 2-1 verdict that was decided on a goal by Winston with 15 seconds left in regulation time. Western won 10 straight games since that setback in Seattle, outscoring opponents 24-0 during that span.
