SEATTLE – Seattle Pacific posted its second straight overtime victory Thursday when Megan Lindsay netted a 98th-minute golden goal to secure a 1-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer decision over Central Washington.
 
The game was played at West Valley Field in Yakima, Wash. instead of the Wildcats' on-campus home field. The venue was changed when the air quality conditions in Ellensburg were deemed unsafe due to recent wildfires.
 
Lindsay (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) ended the game with 2:38 left in the first overtime, tying for the team lead with her fourth goal. Three of those were game-winning strikes. She slipped a low shot past Central goalkeeper Kayla Lipston and into the right side-netting at 97:22.
 
Sophomore Ali Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) was credited with an assist on the play. She collected the ball 40 yards away from goal and dribbled into the box through several Wildcat defenders before distributing a pass to Lindsay at the left side.
 
Lindsay ranks third among all-time SPU scorers with 33 career goals. The senior forward trails school record-holder Sarah Martinez, who amassed 49 goals between 2004-07, and Shannon Lovejoy whose 42 goals came from 2002-05.
 
The Falcons (7-2-2) improved to 4-1-2 in league action. They have played in four consecutive overtimes for the first time in school history. Before this season, SPU had never participated in more than two overtime games in succession.
 
“We're the kings of overtime,” exclaimed SPU coach Chuck Sekyra. “It counts the same, an overtime win and one in regulation.”
 
CWU (3-6-2) dropped to 2-4-1 in GNAC contests. The Wildcats started SPU's overtime streak with a 1-1 draw on Sept. 22 in Seattle.
 
The Falcons got a golden goal from Shayla Page with 10 seconds left in the final overtime on Sept. 29 to claim a 2-1 win over Saint Martin's. Before that, they tied 1-1 at Western Oregon on Sept. 27.
 
“We're going the right direction,” Sekyra said. “We're starting to grow a little bit and we had some chances to win in regulation today. We'll start putting some games away in regulation, I feel good about it.”
 
Junior goalkeeper Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) stopped three shots for SPU en route to her second shutout.
 
Lipston made eight saves for the Wildcats, who were outshot by a 19-14 margin.
 
The Falcons open a three-game homestand on Saturday against Simon Fraser. Kick-off is 1 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.
