Rachel Murray scored 12 points and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row, and
Maddey Pflaumer also collected 12 points on Saturday night to help Seattle Pacific beat Western State Colorado in the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic, 62-46.
The Falcons, now 2-0, kept intact their unblemished record in their own preseason tournament in Brougham Pavilion.. They are now 24-0 in 12 years.
Western State's Jade McIntosh led all scorers with 19 points and teammate Jasmonet Dew added 11. The Mountaineers dropped to 0-2.
Seattle Pacific led from start to finish and went up by as many as 21 late in the game.
The Falcons led 35-26 at the break. WSC pulled within five, 31-26, with 2:38 to go in the first half, but that was as close at the Mountaineers came for the rest of the game.
Senior guard Murray (Eglington, Australia) also had five rebounds, handed out four assists and came up with one steal on Saturday. For the tournament, she totaled 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, shot 8 of 14 from the field and 9 of 10 from the line.
Joining senior guard Murray (Eglington, Australia) on the all-tournament squad was Falcons teammate
Mechela Barnes (Tacoma / Bellarmine Prep HS). The junior guard, a newcomer to the team this year after transferring from the College of Southern Idaho, chipped in seven points, two rebounds and two assists on Saturday. She totaled 21 points, five rebounds and six assists for the two games.
Seattle Pacific returns to action next Friday against UC San Diego in the West Region Crossover at Western Washington University in Bellingham.
