EUGENE, Ore. – It took McKayla Fricker until the conference meet to get onto the NCAA qualifying list for the indoor 800 meters.

The Seattle Pacific sophomore didn't wait nearly that long to get onto the outdoor list.

Fricker sped to a career-best time of 2 minutes, 12.53 seconds on Sunday, fast enough to become a provisional qualifier for the Division II nationals and take second place overall in the Oregon Preview at Historic Hayward Field.

The time for Fricker (Canby, Ore.) – currently the third-fastest in all of D-2 pending the outcome of other meets this weekend -- blew away her previous outdoor best of 2:18.90, which she set on this same oval in last year's Oregon Preview. It came just eight days after Fricker ran to an All-American fifth-place finish in the 800 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn. Her time in that March 10 race was 2:11.69.

Senior Brittany Aanstad also put another national-caliber performance into the books on Sunday. Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) threw the javelin 148 feet, 5 inches, to take second place in that event. The only one ahead of her was Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Amanda Schumaker of Western Oregon at 151-6.

Aanstad's mark was 7 feet, 1 inch farther than her season-opening 141-4 at the UPS Outdoor Preview on March 3 in Tacoma. It moved her up one place to No. 3 in the national rankings.

Seattle Pacific had four of the top 10 finishers in the women's 400 meters, led by the fifth-place run of senior Myisha Valentine (Mountlake Terrace, Wash./North Sound Christian HS). Her time of 57.60 beat her previous career best of 58.29 set in last spring's GNAC Championships.

Sophomore Kishia Mitchell (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers HS) took sixth in 58.34; junior Emily Quatier (Portland, Ore.) was eighth in 58.86, and sophomore BryAnne Wochnick (Portland, Ore.) ran ninth in 59.81. All were GNAC provisional qualifying times, as was Valentine's.

Ryan Endresen was the top Falcons placer in the men's meet. The SPU junior from Portland was third in his specialty, the 400-meter hurdles, in 55.72 seconds, good for conference provisional qualifying.
