MONMOUTH, Ore. – Laura Moore tallied her team-leading eighth goal 29 seconds before halftime Saturday, lifting Seattle Pacific to a 1-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer victory that halted Western Oregon's eight-game unbeaten streak.

Moore's six-yard strike was the first home goal surrendered all season by the Wolves, who suffered their first setback at WOU Soccer Field. They had outscored the previous six opponents 13-0 in Monmouth, including a 1-0 upset of second-ranked Western Washington on Oct. 19.

"I love how we played," exclaimed SPU coach Chuck Sekyra. "This is a tough place to play. They are a very defensive-oriented team. They are well coached, well organized.

"I couldn't be prouder of my team. These guys came out and played great soccer, stuck to the game plan and scored a great goal. We defended the heck out of the game."

WOU (8-3-5) lost for the first time since Sept. 26 and dropped to 6-3-3 in GNAC games.

The Falcons (11-4) won their fourth consecutive game, improving their league ledger to 9-3.

"Our goal four games ago was to win our last six," Sekyra said. "So we've got two games to go. Every game means a ton."

SPU junior Alexa Diaz (Burien, Wash./Kennedy HS) attempted a shot from the right wing that was blocked at the upper right corner by Wolves goalkeeper Amanda Rose Johnson. The ball dropped into the goalmouth and Moore booted the rebound into the back of the net from six yards out at 44:31.

Diaz was credited with her team-high seventh assist on the play.

A sophomore midfielder, Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood HS) scored for the third time in the last four games, all SPU victories. She has registered a goal or assist in 10 of 16 games this year.

Senior goalkeeper Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) stopped three shots for the victorious visitors. She picked up her seventh, and the team's ninth, shutout.

Johnson had seven saves and a teammate cleared a shot off the line for the Wolves, who were on the short end of a 15-6 shot differential.

The SPU women close out the regular season next week with a pair of home games at Interbay Stadium. They host Simon Fraser on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Central Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m.

"It was a great win today. We get to go home now and take care of business with two games at home," Sekyra said.
