SEATTLE – It won't officially show up in their record. But the Seattle Pacific Falcons got back on the women's basketball winning track on Saturday night.

Katie Benson score 14 of her game-high 20 points during the first half and also pulled down 13 rebounds for a double-double, and sophomore guard Brianne Lasconia came off the bench to pump in 14 points as SPU rolled past Warner Pacific in an exhibition game in Brougham Pavilion, 84-38.

The Falcons, ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II this week are 7-1 overall, the lone loss coming last Saturday at Alaska Anchorage, 77-65. This game, which was a non-counter for both schools, was their first one since then.

Julie Heisey header 2013-14.
"The biggest thing is you need competition to get better, and this game provided an opportunity to get on the floor and play and put things that we worked on the last four days of practice into play," SPU head coach Julie Heisey said. "We came back from Anchorage, and we knew we had to get better at rebounding." (The Falcons had a decisive 48-33 margin on the boards).

Senior forward Benson (Snohomish, Wash. / Snohomish HS) hit 9 of 15 from the field, and also handed out three assists, blocked two shots, and came up with two steals.

Lasconia (Seattle / Shorecrest HS) came within one point of her official career high of 15, set on Nov. 23 in an 83-74 victory at Azusa Pacific. She hit 5 of 8 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from downtown, drained both of her

Freshman forward / guard Hannah Rodrigues (Eugene, Ore.) added 10 points for Seattle Pacific, her first time in double digits as a collegian. In games that count, her career high is five points.

Brianna Lasconia header 2013-14.
Led by Lasconia, SPU got 38 of its 84 points from reserves. The Falcons also got 13 of their 48 rebounds off the bench, with four from sophomore center Molly Grager (Kirkland, Wash. / Juanita HS) setting the pace. Freshmen Rachel Shim (Sammamish, Wash. / Skyline HS) and Stacey Lukasiewicz (Centennial, Colo.) added eight points apiece.

"I wanted an opportunity to have some of our younger kids get more minutes, and I felt they did a good job with that," Heisey said. "Rachel did a good job of running the show. We were able to run sets and execute them, and her shot selection was good, too."

The Falcons took charge of this one right away. Up 3-2 in the first two minutes, they ran off 12 straight points for a 15-2 advantage, and the lead never dropped below 11 points the rest of the way. Another even bigger surge – this one 16 points in a row – expanded a 19-7 lead to 35-7 with 4:01 left in the first half.

The final margin of 46 points was SPU's largest of the night.

Warner Pacific of Portland (4-7) had no one in double figures. The Knights were led by Janelle Weiss, who came off the bench for nine points. They hit just 24 percent from the field (12 of 50), while Seattle Pacific was at 46.6 percent (27 of 58).

The Falcons return to action on Thursday against South Dakota School of Mines in Brougham at 7:30 p.m. That will be preceded by a game between the Simon Fraser and No. 11-ranked West Texas A&M women at 5:15.
