SEATTLE – The Falcons displayed Thursday why they are impossible to beat in home-opening games.

Sophomore Emma Holm scored in the first half and Seattle Pacific added two second-half goals en route to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Dixie State in its first home game of the 2013 season at Interbay Stadium.

"It feels great to be here. Our kids just absolutely love playing at home and obviously they showed that tonight," said Coach Chuck Sekyra. His SPU squad is undefeated in 13 all-time home-opening games with 12 wins and one tie.

"We have a good team. We've outscored people 3-0 in back-to-back games and it's been awhile since we've done that. This team has gotten better every game."

The Falcons improved to 2-1 with their second straight win while Dixie dropped to 0-1-1.

Holm (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington HS) netted her first collegiate goal on a 28-yard blast at 37:20.

Freshman Maddie Kraus slid a pass from the left flank into the middle where Holm took a touch before firing a long shot that carried over the goalkeeper's fingertips and just under the crossbar. Kelly Gould was also credited with an assist on the opening goal.

Sekyra didn't expect Holm to shoot, but he was thrilled with the result.

"I was wondering who she was going to play, who was she going to slot it to in the box. But she took it well.

"Emma Holm is a very skilled kid and we want that holding midfielder coming to the attack late. She played it like a pro as far as her decision and the way she struck it."

Holm's scoring strike came on the 13th attempt of the game for SPU, which built a 14-2 shot advantage by halftime.

Krauss (Lake Oswego, Ore.) amassed five first-half shots, along with a goal that was disallowed by an offside call. One of her attempts hit the left post and two were saved by Red Storm goalkeeper Stacie Gubler.

Junior Demi Waitley (Coronado, Colo.) tallied SPU's second goal in the 70th minute. She ran on to a pass from Josie Graybeal, drove into the right side of the box and snuck a low six-yard shot inside the right post at 69:24.

Sophomore Laura Moore's insurance goal at 81:04 came off a corner kick from the left side. Alexa Diaz served the cross to the far post where Shayla Page headed it back across the goal. Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood HS) raced to the ball and directed a diving header inside the left post for her team-leading third goal of the season.

Senior SPU goalkeeper Natalie Harold (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS) stopped two shots for her second shutout.

Gubler made five saves for Dixie, which was outshot by a 19-4 margin.

The Falcons play at home again on Saturday at 4:30 as the opener a doubleheader with the SPU men who play at 7 p.m. Both games are at Interbay Stadium against Notre Dame de Namur.
