SEATTLE – The floodgates finally opened wide for the Falcons.

Seattle Pacific scored on its first four shots Saturday, the opening two goals by Laura Moore and Hannah Huesers coming 17 seconds apart, en route to a 6-1 women's soccer triumph over Northwest Nazarene at Interbay Stadium.

"We've been talking about the way we have been playing and dominating in some ways, that balls would start flying into the back of the net. They certainly did today," SPU coach Chuck Sekyra exclaimed.

Moore registered her first career hat trick, getting the third goal in the 25th minute, and added an assist. Huesers compiled two goals and an assist.

The flurry of early goals was a welcome relief for the Falcons (6-3-2), who had struggled to score in their previous three outings despite dominating the run of play. They entered Saturday's game having managed just two goals on their previous 74 shots.

SPU outshot its last three opponents by a commanding 64-18 margin, but had only a 2-1 win to show for it along with a scoreless tie and 1-0 loss.

During that span, the Falcons witnessed a steady stream of shots hitting the crossbar, caroming off posts or getting cleared off the goal line by defenders.

Despite the recent run of rough luck, Sekyra wasn't astonished by the rapid outpouring of goals on Saturday.

"I wasn't surprised just because we are that good. We've understood that things haven't been going our way in that manner, but we're good enough to have them go our way. That was proof today.

"It was really confidence-building for our team going forward. We can fill the net up anytime, anywhere I feel, so it was just fun to see that today."

The Falcons improved to 4-2-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play while the Crusaders (3-6-3) dropped to 2-5-1.

Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood HS) started the scoring at 7:43, taking a pass from Demi Waitley (Coronado, Calif.) and slipping a 12-yard shot inside the left post.

Waitley set up the second goal as well, just 17 seconds later, with a long feed to Huesers whose shot from barely outside the 18-yard box carried into the left side at 8:00.

Huesers (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) scored again at 10:57 with her team-leading eight goal of the season. Moore and Alexa Diaz (Burien, Wash./Kennedy HS) set up her 20-yard strike into the upper right corner.

Quick passes from Isabel Farrell (Redmond, Wash./Interlake HS) and Huesers found Moore in the center of the box at 11:39 for an eight-yard finish and her second goal.

Moore completed the hat trick at 24:34 with her fourth goal of the season. Her first shot was deflected by NNU goalkeeper Daniele Ortiz, but Moore deposited the rebound from seven yards out to provide a 5-0 lead.

"Laura put herself in great spots all year to finish," Sekyra said. "I had an individual meeting with her the other day and said 'keep doing it because it's coming.' That makes me feel good."

Moore's trio of goals marked the first hat trick by a Falcon since Oct. 1, 2011 when Megan Lindsay accomplished the feat at home, also against NNU.

The Crusaders drew within 5-1 before halftime when Lexi Fesenbek capitalized on a breakaway with a 13-yard shot into the lower left of the SPU goal at 37:40. Ashley Cook-Cox was credited with an assist on the play.

Farrell netted the lone second-half goal at 54:17 on a 16-yard shot after receiving a short corner kick from Diaz and dribbling into the right side of the box. That was the seventh goal of the season for the junior, who transferred in January from the University of Washington.

Starting SPU goalkeeper Alexa Hughes (Everett, Wash./Archbishop Murphy HS) made one save in first half before being replaced by Molly Stinson (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville HS), who stopped four shots during the final 45 minutes.

Ortiz had five saves for the Crusaders, who were outshot 17-12.

The Falcons completed a sweep of the season series as they defeated NNU 4-1 on Sept. 25 in Nampa, Idaho.

The SPU women play five of their final six regular-season games away from home. They start a stretch of four straight road games on Thursday at Saint Martin's.

Coach Sekyra stated a simple key for SPU's success on the upcoming road outings.

"Be ourselves. Just continue to grow in the areas that we are focusing on, continue to play the level of soccer that we are playing. It was proof tonight that the ball's going to start flying into the back of the net.

"Both offensively and defensively we are going in the right direction. I'm excited to get on the road and get after it with this team."
