SEATTLE – Fifth-ranked Seattle Pacific compiled a 19-7 shot advantage, but was unable to get one in the goal Saturday night and had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Saint Martin's in the final regular season men's soccer game for both teams at Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons (15-1-2), who clinched the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship last week, completed league play with a 12-1-1 record. Next week, they will compete in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.

The playoff field will be announced on Monday at 4:30 p.m. SPU will get to host early rounds of the playoffs if selected as one of the top-two seeds in the West Region.

"Certainly we're going to hope for the best and see where our seeding comes in," said SPU coach Mark Collings. "We're going to do our best to prepare. Hopefully our guys will be ready.

"It's the NCAA Tournament, you win and you keep going or you lose and you go home so that should get our guys attention."

The Saints (3-14-1) finished with a 3-10-1 GNAC record. They seemingly got a goal with 2:54 left in the second overtime, but scorer Max Harvey was whistled for a pushing foul on the play.

Senior Cody Lang registered both of his saves during the first half en route to his 10th shutout for the Falcons, who have surrendered just eight goals this season.

JJ Olson stopped five shots for SMU.

"Give Saint Martin's credit. They played really, really hard and their 'keeper came up huge multiple times," Collings said.

"To our disappointment, I thought we were a little flat and just didn't play with enough emotion in the first half. Our team isn't good enough to come out and just go through the motions and our league is too strong."

The first half was a defensive struggle that saw only five shots attempted. The Saints had the game's first three attempts, all inside the opening 14 minutes, but did not have another the rest of the scoreless first half. Two of their tries were snared by Lang.

The Falcons two first-half shots came in quick succession following a corner kick by Jordan Kollars. Danny Olivas has an attempt blocked in the 23rd minute followed by another SMU block of an Ian Adams try 31 seconds later.

SPU picked up its pressure on the attack after halftime resulting in a 10-2 shot lead during the second half.

Just 2:46 after intermission, Sean Russell had a dangerous shot denied by Olson.

In the 56th minute, the Falcons Matt Merchant hit a dipping volley from 25 yards out that was tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

"That's the kind of energy we've had throughout the year and that's why our record is what it is," Collings said of his team's increased intensity after halftime.

"To win championships you can't turn it off and on. Tonight we definitely didn't turn it on until our backs were against the wall. By that point Saint Martin's had found a pretty good rhythm and had some confidence so it made it tougher on us."

SMU was given a free kick five yards outside the box on the right side just over one minute into the first overtime. Kaleb Strawn stepped up to take the kick and delivered it just wide of the right post in the visitor's best possibility of the night.

In the 96th minute, Bryson Pavel blasted a long attempt after a corner kick that carried high of the Saints goal.

SPU's closest opportunity in the final overtime came 20 seconds in then Ian Adams dribbled around the box and whipped a shot toward the left side of the goal. Olson dove to deflect it away from the goalmouth.

While Collings was disappointed with his team's energy level Saturday, it didn't diminish his outlook on a magnificent regular season that saw several school records fall, including the program's longest winning streak (13 games) and longest unbeaten streak (15 games).

"We've been very good all year so I don't think this is reason to panic. It's just more that we need to get a little fire lit underneath us and get ready to go here in a few days."

Before the game a brief ceremony was conducted to honor the two SPU seniors on the occasion of their final regular-season home appearance. Defender Evan Robicheau and forward Sean Russell are the only two Falcons to start every game this season. They helped the team compile an outstanding 52-12-12 record in the last four seasons with NCAA Tournament appearances every year.
