SEATTLE – Hannah Huesers scored two goals on Saturday, the first of which ignited a first-half outburst of three scores in 12 minutes, as the Seattle Pacific Falcons rolled past Notre Dame de Namur in a non-conference women's soccer game at Interbay Stadium, 5-0.

The 24th-ranked Falcons completed their preseason schedule with a 2-1-0 record.

Huesers stressed the significance of securing a winning record against non-league foes.

"It was really important because we don't get a chance to play these teams again. We wanted to come out really strong and finish them off."

The SPU women begin Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game against Simon Fraser at Interbay.

Pacific West Conference member NDNU (2-1-0) took its first loss of the season.

Junior midfielder Isabel Farrell (Redmond, Wash. / Interlake HS), sophomore forward Maddie Krauss (Lake Oswego, Ore.), and freshman forward Simone Herzberg (Portland, Ore.) also scored for SPU.

Farrell, who joined the Falcons this season after playing previously at the University of Washington, opened the scoring at the 12:58 mark. Senior midfielder Demi Waitley (Coronado, Calif.) sent a long through ball down the left side. Farrell took it into the penalty area, and, from 10 yards in front of the net and to the left of center, sent a shot into the back right corner.

Farrell has scored twice this season. Both of them have been the opening goal in each of SPU's first two home games.

Sophomore forward Huesers (Lake Stevens, Wash. / Lake Stevens HS) thought she had a goal midway through the 28th minute, only to see it waved off by an offside call. But three minutes later, Huesers put one in that counted, as she scored unassisted from the top of the 6-yard box at 30:31.

Krauss made it 3-0 two minutes later, scoring from straight in front and just outside the 6-yard box after taking a through ball from junior midfielder Laura Moore (Kent, Wash. / Kentwood HS). That was her first goal of the season.

Herzberg, with her first, expanded the lead to 4-0 just 2½ minutes away from halftime. Huesers made it 5-0 at 55:31 with her third of the season and ninth of her career.

In 14 games last season, Hueser compiled six goals to rank second among SPU scorers. She already has three in the first three outings of 2014.

Huesers clearly enjoys finding the back of the net.

"I'm just going out to play my best and have fun with it. It's really fun."

Seattle Pacific easily outshot Notre Dame de Namur, 26-9.

Molly Stinson
Freshman goalkeeper Molly Stinson (Woodinville, Wash. / Woodinville HS), making her college debut, was credited with two saves in 82 shutout minutes before giving way to Laura Shdo (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS).

Stinson was filling in for incumbent starter Alexa Hughes, a senior netminder who missed the game due to a wedding.

"Molly Stinson came in and she did really well," Huesers said. "She came in really confident and ready to win the ball. She just helped our team a lot."

The Falcons have won eight straight against the Argonauts by a combined score of 26-2. Their only loss in the series was 1-0 in overtime during SPU's inaugural 2001 season.
