Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – Junior
Isabel Farrell netted a goal for the fourth consecutive game and added two assists Thursday, leading the Seattle Pacific women to a 4-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene at NNU Soccer Field.
The Falcons (4-1-1) improved to 2-0-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play after dealing the first league loss to NNU (2-2-3). The Crusaders had their GNAC record evened at 1-1-1.
Farrell connected with junior defender
Shayla Page (Redmond, Wash./Eastlake HS) on a corner kick for the opening goal at 12:47. Page was at the far post on the left side of the box for a header that slipped inside the post for her first goal of the season.
The Crusaders equalized less than three minutes later, capitalizing on an SPU turnover. Sarah Blum stole the ball and served a cross from the right flank to Nicole Nsa, whose 10-yard boot caromed off the crossbar on its way into the goal at 15:26.
Ashley ShawThe game was tied through halftime before SPU got the go-ahead goal from
Ashley Shaw (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Lutheran HS) at 57:42. The junior defender was playing her first game of the season after recovering from an injury.
"It's huge to have Ashley back. She was one of our best attacking players in the preseason," Sekyra described. "She's still got some fitness to go, but she had an immediate impact on the game today. It's great to have a player like that back, it certainly helps us in so many ways."
Shaw connected on a give-and-go with
Alexa Diaz (Burien, Wash./Kennedy HS) at the top of the box before scoring.
Farrell netted the third SPU tally at 65:55, converting a penalty kick for her team-leading fifth goal. A transfer from the University of Washington, Farrell registered a goal in five of the Falcons six games.
"She was great today," Sekyra exclaimed. "
Isabel Farrell has been a difference maker for us, and a handful for our opponents right now.
"She makes great decisions whether to go herself or pass. Today she got in scenarios and situations on the field where she had numbers around her defensively and she just brought someone else into the game."
Junior
Laura Moore capped the scoring at 73:30 after slipping behind the defense to receive a through ball from
Demi Waitley (Coronado, Calif.). Farrell initiated the scoring play as her pass found Waitley open in the center of the field.
SPU amassed 14 goals during the last four games, including Farrell's four.
Senior goalkeeper
Alexa Hughes (Everett, Wash./Archbishop Murphy HS) made four saves for the Falcons, who outshot their hosts 19-13.
The first half was tied on the scoreboard and nearly on the shot chart as well. The Falcons had a slim 9-8 shot edge during the opening 45 minutes, but outshot NNU 10-5 after halftime.
"I was very pleased with how my team came out and played in the second half," said Sekyra. "They dominated play both offensively and defensively. I was very pleased to see them finish a game in that manner."
The Crusaders' Daniele Ortiz stopped seven shots.
The SPU women remain on the road for a visit to Montana State Billings on Saturday at 11 a.m. Pacific Time. They start a four-game homestand next week with a Thursday, Oct. 2 clash against Central Washington. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.
