BISMARCK, N.D. – What took them so long?

Two days after getting goals within a 13-second span, Seattle Pacific's Ian Adams and Mori Tsuchiya both scored again, but this time at the comparatively glacial pace of 13 minutes apart.

They sparked 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific's four-goal explosion in the second half of a 4-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer triumph over U-Mary at the Community Bowl.

5553
Ian Adams
5572
Mori Tsuchiya
Adams and Tsuchiya found the goal in the 51st and 64th minutes, respectively. In Thursday's 3-1 win at Montana State Billings, that duo tied the school record for fastest successive scores.

"Those guys, Ian and Mori, have been very good the past two games as well as Gabe Kellum and Danny Olivas," said SPU coach Mark Collings. "Between the four of them they really did a great job instigating a lot of our attacks.

"It's been fun to watch those four really finding each other and creating a lot of problems. Fortunately Ian and Mori had great finishes tonight, but it's been a team effort."

Olivas tallied SPU's second goal in the 58th minute and red-shirt freshman Peyton Harris (Boise, Idaho) capped Saturday's scoring at 86:57 with his first collegiate goal.

Kellum (Rennes, France) was credited with assists on the second and third goals. He also distributed a pair of scoring passes on Thursday.

Defending GNAC champion SPU (8-1-2) improved its league ledger to 4-1-2 on the strength of its highest scoring output of the season.

"I would have liked to play just about anybody tonight," Collings exclaimed. "We moved the ball as well as we have all year. We weren't just moving the ball, but were putting a lot of pressure on goal. We were a little unlucky not to get one or two before halftime.

"Guys came out in a good rhythm in the second half and we were able to put some balls away."

The seven goals compiled in the last two games are just three fewer than the Falcons managed during their first nine games.

5679
Rodney Greiling
Cody Lang and Rodney Greiling combined for the clean sheet, SPU's seventh this season. Lang (Spokane, Wash./Lewis & Clark HS) started and made SPU's only save before being replaced at halftime by Greiling (Kentwood HS).

"Rodney's been working really hard and its something where we have a theme within our program of guys continuing to work hard and compete," Collings said. "He's been doing that so we decided to give Rodney some time tonight."

The Marauders (3-7-1) dropped to 2-5-0 in GNAC play. They were outshot 22-6, forcing goalkeeper Ludvig Rhodin to make five saves.

After opening the season with six shutouts, the Falcons allowed a single goal in each of the last four games. They were stingy Saturday.

"Our defense was fantastic tonight," said Collings. "We put them under a lot of pressure and they had a really difficult time breaking us down. We did a great job continuing to make like difficult for them to play through our midfield and ultimately through our back line."

The first half was scoreless despite an offensive onslaught from the visitors. They outshot U-Mary 10-3 and earned nine corner kicks while allowing none.

Adams (Shorecrest HS) broke the scoring drought at 50:03 with a far-post header off a cross from defender Bryson Pavel (Boise, Idaho).

5619
Danny Olivas
Olivas (Phoenix, Ariz.) made it 2-0 with a low, 12-yard shot from the left side that tucked inside the right post at 57:37. Quick one-two passes from Tsuchiya (Chief Sealth HS) and Kellum set up the score.

Harris (Boise, Idaho) found the back of the net with 3:03 remaining after collecting a rebounded and finishing from 10 yards out.

Collings commended his players on their resilience throughout the just-completed four-game road stretch, a trip that took them from Bellingham, Wash. to Canada, Montana and North Dakota.

"Until you go through this four-game series here you don't really understand how difficult it is. This is a lot of travel, a couple time zones and our guys handled it like absolute professionals. I couldn't be more proud of the group and how they conducted themselves over the last two weeks."

The SPU men return home to Seattle for two games next week, versus Simon Fraser on Thursday and Western Washington on Saturday. Kick-off for both games is 7 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.

"I'm excited for the rest of the year because certainly we are in a really good rhythm right now," Collings concluded.
