SEATTLE – For a while, it was the score that was doubled up, as the Seattle Pacific Falcons pulled further and further into the lead.

But even though the final margin in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball opener on Thursday night wasn't quite that wide, some doubling still got done on the Brougham Pavilion court.

Double-doubling, to be precise.

Stacey Lukasiewicz grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and tied her career high with 13 points for her first collegiate double-double, and Jordan McPhee pumped in 15 points as SPU began its conference schedule with a 79-58 rout of Western Oregon to snap a three-game losing streak.

Junior guard Lukasiewicz (Centennial, Colo.) easily beat her old career rebounding high of eight, set as a freshman on Dec. 5, 2013 at Alaska Fairbanks. Her previous 13-point outing was Nov. 20 against UC San Diego.

Lukasiewicz' double-double went into the books on the same possession early in the third quarter.

First, she grabbed an offensive rebound on a missed shot by senior center Molly Grager for her 10th board of the night. She kicked the ball back out to Grager, then got herself open under the hoop. Grager zipped a pass right back to her, and Lukasiewicz put it in for her 10th point.

"Oh, that's fun – I didn't know that," Lukasiewicz said when told of the moment the double-double became a done deal.

"We knew that they were playing zone, and knew that we were going to have a lot of outside shots," she added. "One of our big goals coming in was to rebound really well. So I just crashed and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time a lot, so I grabbed some rebounds"

Courtney Hollander
Sophomore guard Courtney Hollander, who has two early-season double-doubles, added 12 points for the Falcons (3-3, 1-0 GNAC).

Seattle Pacific concludes the first week of conference play on Saturday against GNAC newcomer Concordia at 7:00 p.m. in Brougham.

SPU trailed Western Oregon just once, that at 3-2 early in the first quarter. With the game tied at 5-5, they put the next nine points on the board. That was part of a 19-6 run that made it 24-11 at the end of the first quarter, and the lead stayed in double digits the rest of the night.

For the last 3 minutes, 54 seconds of the first quarter, the last 8:10 of the second quarter, and the entire third quarter, the Falcons had at least twice as many points in the boards as Western Oregon (1-6, 0-1 GNAC). They were up 47-17 at the half and 66-33 after three.

The Wolves put up 25 fourth-quarter points, but by then, the outcome was long since decided.

"It was really nice to be at home (after five straight November road games), it was a conference win, and it was also nice to get the reward of a victory," coach Julie Heisey said. "We've done some good things, and you need to be rewarded for that.

"It's just our sixth game of the season, and the goal is to put a 40-minute game together," she continued. "In the first half, we only had five turnovers, and I was happy with that; we held them to 26 percent shooting and 17 points, and we did a good job of sharing the ball. We've just got to make sure we give the same effort for 40 minutes and stay consistent in our fundamentals."

Brianne Lasconia
SPU hit 31 of 71 from the floor (43.7 percent), and 19 of those baskets were assisted, led by the five of junior guard Brianne Lasconia (Seattle, Wash. / Shorecrest HS). The Falcons dominated the boards, 47-31. In addition to Lukasiewicz' 12, McPhee collected seven. And, after turning the ball over 25 times in last Tuesday's 68-62 loss at Point Loma Nazarene, they cut it down to 16.

Kaylie Boschma led Western Oregon (1-6, 0-1 GNAC) with 10 points.
