ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Two points down. Two seconds left. Two free throws coming up for a chance to tie the score.

Not everybody wants the ball in that situation.

Aubree Callen wants it.

Callen swished a pair from the line with 2.4 seconds remaining on Thursday night to force overtime, then Suzanna Ohlsen scored 11 of her career-high 26 points during the second OT as No. 18-ranked Seattle Pacific roared back to beat Central Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game, 73-64.

"I get nervous inside, but the whole time, I have a routine," said redshirt senior guard Callen (Jerome, Idaho), adding that she hasn't faced a situation like that since her days at Jerome High School. "So if the other coach calls a timeout, the whole time I just try to pay attention to what my coach is saying and try to stay in my  routine the whole time and not think negative thoughts."

Falcons coach Julie Heisey did indeed have something to say to Callen during that 60-second interlude.

"I told her during the timeout, 'You were made for this moment,'" Heisey said. "I had no doubt. She wants to shoot in those situations, and she did awesome."

Suzanna Ohlsen
Senior point guard Ohlsen (Monroe, Wash. / Monroe HS) eclipsed her previous career high of 25, which the set twice, most recently last March 2 against Simon Fraser.

Seattle Pacific (18-3, 10-3 GNAC, and now with four straight wins) was down 52-44 with 4:41 to go in regulation in Nicholson Pavilion, then outscored the Wildcats, 12-4, leaving it deadlocked at 56-56. The last two of those points came from Callen, who went up for a shot under the basket, but was fouled by Jasmine Parker, setting up the game-tying opportunity.

NEW LIFE FOR FALCONS
After Central's full timeout – and Callen's subsequent two makes – the Wildcats called another timeout to draw up a potential game-winning shot. The ensuing inbounds pass was lobbed all the way downcourt and was deflected by the Falcons, but went right to CWU's Courtney Johnson. She found herself wide open about 20 feet away on the right side, but her shot bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

SPU had a 60-58 lead with time running out in the first overtime. But Parker hit a 15-footer from the right side with 2.4 seconds left, and the Falcons were not able to get off a final try, leaving it tied at 60-60.

Ohlsen hit a driving lay-in on the first possession of the second overtime, then drained a 3-pointer from the right of the lane for a 65-60 lead with 1:44 left. Erika Locker hit two free throws for Central, making it 65-62 at the 1:24 mark. But Seattle Pacific put the next eight points on the board to pull away.

Julie Heisey
"You've gotta go through the first to be great. For a moment, Central was in control, and we were backing down," said Heisey, whose team returns to action at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. "Then we rose up. We got some really good stops, we got some rebounds, we were able to get Aubree inside a little, and she was able to make some good decisions in the paint."

After building its largest lead of the first half at 28-20, thanks to a 10-2 scoring run, the Falcons went without a point for the final 5 minutes, 16 seconds as Central ran off nine in a row to take a 29-28 lead at the break. SPU hit 6 of 12 from behind the 3-point arc during the first half, but just 4 of 12 from closer range.

The 28 points tied for the lowest scoring first half of the season for the Falcons. The lead changed hands seven times, and the game was tied four times through the first 20 minutes.

"We had to find ways to get in the paint and had to find ways to rebound, because we weren't getting second shots," Heisey said. "They were getting easier shots than we were. Defensively, we made some adjustments, and our kids responded. I was more concerned about getting our offense going."

In addition to her career high in points, Ohlsen tied her career rebounding high with nine. Callen and sophomore forward Hannah Rodrigues grabbed seven apiece.

Johnson finished with 23 points for Central.
