SEATTLE – Not enough rebounds off the glass. Not enough rhythm up the court.

And not nearly enough points on the board for the Seattle Pacific Falcons.

Megan Wiedeman had a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds, one of four Saint Martin's players in double-figure scoring, as the Saints upset 15th-ranked SPU in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Thursday night in Brougham Pavilion, 68-52.

The Falcons (19-4, 11-4 GNAC) saw a five-game winning streak end, and they fell into third place in the standings, half a game behind Western Washington (12-4). They still have a chance to regain second and clinch a first-round bye for the conference tournament. Any combination of SPU wins and Western losses totaling three in the final three games of the season will do it.

Suzanna Ohlsen led Seattle Pacific with 15 points, and Maddey Pflaumer added 10.

SPU's 52-point total was its lowest of the season, six fewer than it scored in an 85-58 loss to Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 6. The Falcons struggled with their shooting all night, hitting just 32.7 percent (18 of 55) against the Saints' defense. That included just 1 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc.

"Obviously, we can control the controllables, and one of those things is when you're not shooting well, you've got to get second shots," head coach Julie Heisey said.

Those extra shots weren't easy to muster. The Saints dominated the boards, 49-38, including 21-12 at the offensive end. That led to 20 second-chance points for Saint Martin's, to just seven for Seattle Pacific.

"Rebounding changes everything," Heisey said. "That creates momentum, you get second chances. You score 70 percent on offensive rebounds, get to the line more, and you take away someone's fast break.

SENIOR NIGHT COMING UP
SPU plays its home finale on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., hosting Western Oregon. That will be Senior Night, as Aubree Callen, Betsy Kingma, Suzanna Ohlsen, and Maddie Pflaumer will be honored just prior to tip-off.

Saint Martin's (9-14, 6-9 GNAC) completed a season sweep against Seattle Pacific. The Saints, still trying to clinch a spot in the GNAC Tournament, climbed into sixth place with three games left. The top six qualify.

Seattle Pacific used a 5-0 run to take its biggest lead of the night at 21-18 with 2:33 left in the first half. But the Saints ran off nine straight points to end the half, taking a 27-21 lead into the locker room, and stayed ahead the rest of the night.

The Falcons were down by just four points at 33-29 with 13:45 remaining in the game. Saint Martin's then put up seven points in a row to start a 14-2 run and expand its lead to 47-31. SPU never got closer than 10, that coming with just 1:11 to play.

The Saints shot just 34.3 percent, but had five more field goals for the night (23 of 67), including three more from downtown.

"We were very focused defensively," Heisey said. "But we played very tight offensively. You keep trying and keep trying, then your back breaks because you have to have a little encouragement and some reward for your hard work. I thought we played hard.

"We've got to take care of the little things. But we'll get better."

Aubree Callen led the Falcons with six rebounds. Ohlsen and Maddey Pflaumer grabbed five apiece.
